Maraba




Maraba is a municipality in the state of Para in Brazil.The population of the municipality in 2004 is 191,508, the area is 15,157,99 km². The elevation is 84m (centre). The population of the townitself is 156,600 (IBGE estimate 2005). This place name comes from the Tupi language. It's foundation was in April 5, 1913.




Maraba, corner of natural beauty.Bordered by two major rivers,Itacaiunas and Tocantins, brings an air of provincial town, but offers great opportunities to those resident and visitors.




The municipality of Maraba experienced various economic cycles. Until the early 80s the economy was based on vegetable products, but the rubber crisi prompted the city to a new cycle, this time, the cycle of Chestnut-of-Para, who led for years on the municipal economy. With the emergence of Serra Pelada and be in the world's largest mineral province, Maraba also saw the cycle of mining, which had the greatest emphasis, the extraction of gold.
